Remembering Roy King

It is with deep sadness

mingled with joy and gratitude that we share the news that our longtime supporter, prayer warrior, Board member, and friend Roy Wheatley King graduated from this earth to his heavenly home on Friday morning, January 5.

We had been friends and colleagues in serving Rochester’s underprivileged citizens since the early years of the founding of His Branches back in the 1970s when Roy was in practice as a local attorney, supported in his office by his wife Lucille.

Later on when Roy was appointed to the bench as a judge by Mayor Johnson, we collaborated in the community care of a number of clients who were being encouraged in their recovery through the Drug Court he oversaw.

Roy joined the His Branches Board of Directors in March 2005 and remained a faithful and dedicated member throughout the remainder of his life, serving on the Governance and Intercessory Prayer Committees as well as providing active leadership as President of the Board.

After his retirement from his full-time judicial duties, Roy became even more involved in the neighborhood outreach activities sponsored by His Branches Community. We are already missing his warm smile, encouraging ways, gentle manner, and deep wisdom.

The wake will be held Friday the 12th with open visiting hours  from 5-8 pm at New Progressive Cathedral, 384 Chili Avenue, Rochester, NY. The funeral will be held the following day on Saturday the 13th at 11 am at the same location.
